June Russell's Health Facts

Smoking - Kidney/Bladder

Tobacco use is a common stressor for kidneys and urinary system disorders. (“Spontaneous Healing,” a book by Andrew Weil, M.D., 1995)

Smoking tobacco increases the risk of some urinary tract conditions, and tobacco is also associated with atherosclerosis, including the blood vessels that go to the kidney. This causes high blood pressure and loss of kidney function. Smoking tends to cause chronic coughing, which can add to the problem of bladder control, and can increase the risk of bladder cancer. (From the Women’s Complete Healthbook, AMWA - 2000)
